Songs from the works of Purcell, [R. Leveridge], Arnold, Handel, Boyce, Mozart, and Pergolesi. Seventeen manuscript volumes in four different hands, consisting of a partial score (W.a.222) and sixteen part books (W.a.223-227 are vocal parts (alto and tenor chorus; canto, alto and basso principale) and W.b.554-564 are parts for the orchestral accompaniment to the set of songs (incomplete)). Collection of stage works, incidental music and sacred pieces by British and Continental composers. Contents include Henry Purcell's Tempest; Purcell's King Arthur; Richard Leveridge's Music in Macbeth (here attributed to Purcell); Samuel Arnold's "Moors trio" from The mountaineers; the chorus "May no rash intruder" from George Frideric Handel's Solomon; William Boyce's "Here shall soft charity repair" (from Ode for the Leicester Infirmary); the Gloria from Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Mass in D; the Benedictus from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem; and the chorus "O God when thou appear[est]" (an English verion of "Splendente te Deus") from Mozart's Thamos, König in Ägypten.
